A beautiful family film marked the latest stage of the Princess of Wales’ protracted recovery following abdominal surgery and a course of chemotherapy following a cancer diagnosis. The news of having completed her treatment also allowed Kate to return to public life in a limited way, firstly giving a very special day to a young cancer sufferer, the late Liz Hatton, followed by a trip to the town of Southport. The devastating floods that hit eastern Spain in late October and early November were caused by an isolated low-pressure area at high levels, which saw over a year’s worth of precipitation in several areas, with the Valencia region hit hardest, writes Simona Rossi. The floodwaters caused the deaths of 224 people, over half aged seventy or more, with huge property and infrastructure damage. It was one of the deadliest natural disasters in recent Spanish history and King Felipe and Queen Letizia soon travelled to the Valencia region to offer their support to local communities and emergency services. However, by then the tragedy had seen a huge backlash against the actions of the authorities. The focus was on Valencian President Carlos Mazón, who had held a press conference at the outset of the rains saying that the storm would dissipate.
